Budvanski karneval
For three days every spring, Budva turns its 2,500-year-old walled town into a carnival. Masked groups, costumes and music move through the streets and along the Riviera, opening the season on the Montenegrin coast. We covered it all in photo and video — the parade, the crowd, the color against the old stone. The kind of footage that makes you want to be there next year.
Behind the project
The International Budva Carnival is one of the coast's signature spring events — three days of masked processions, costumes and music that open the season and fill Budva's medieval Old Town with life. The program moves from the Riviera towns of Petrovac, Pržno and Sveti Stefan into the streets of Budva itself, building to the big carnival parade inside and in front of the ancient walls, before the children's procession closes it out. Few events give you this much color set against 2,500 years of stone and sea.
Our job was to capture it. Across the carnival we shot the parades, the costumes, the performers and the crowds, then cut and graded the material into a photo and video package that carries the whole atmosphere of the event. The goal was to do justice to both sides of the story — the spectacle of the costumes and the timeless setting they move through — and to leave Budva with content that sells the carnival, and the town, long after the last mask comes off.
